Real accounts on real devices vs bots: what changes on TikTok and Instagram

Every few months TikTok and Instagram delete millions of automated accounts. Bot networks and emulators fall in bulk; the accounts that survive share three things: a physical phone, human behavior and a history built slowly.

What the platform looks at

Device fingerprint, the network it connects from, the rhythm of actions and how consistent the content is with the niche. An emulator has a repeated fingerprint; a badly built farm shares IPs; a bot posts at exact intervals. A real phone with a SIM and a person behind it triggers none of those alarms.

What warming an account means

Two to four weeks of normal use before posting seriously: watching niche content, following relevant accounts, commenting, saving. The platform learns what the account is and who to show its posts to. Skipping this step is the most common cause of zero views.

How to tell if reach is real

Three checks you can run with public data and the platforms' own analytics:

• Share of views coming from the For You feed or suggestions versus direct profile visits. If almost everything comes from the profile, there is no algorithmic distribution.
• Engagement per thousand views. Views with no likes, comments or saves are views nobody watched.
• Traffic reaching the destination channels: pre-saves, YouTube channel visits, new followers on the main profile. Distribution exists for that; if it moves nothing there, it is noise.

What to demand from a provider

Accounts created and warmed in your niche, not recycled from another. Access to see the device and the account. Posts included in the price, not an extra per piece. And a report that separates what the network did from what your own channel did.
